San Antonio Homes for Sale

San Antonio, home to the Alamo, the RiverWalk, world class shopping, dining and a high quality of life is also one of Texas’ largest and most influential cities. One of America’s oldest cities, San Antonio has a rich Latino heritage in addition to its long Native American and European history, all culminating into a diverse and welcoming culture, perfect for the new resident.

San Antonio History

Spanish explorers visited a camp of Payaya Indians in 1691.  Later, the Mission San Antonio de Valero was established by a group from Mexico.  This Mission was later renamed the Alamo.  San Antonio was the seat of the Spanish government in Texas when Stephen Austin arrived with permission for 300 U.S. families to enter the territory.  Then, in 1836, after the legendary battle at the Alamo, Texas gained its independence.

The San Antonio of today shows an obvious pride in its culture, which is a celebratory blend of Mexican and Texan influence.   In addition to the Latino influences seen in its architecture, the same can be seen and felt in the many festivals, celebrations and area attractions as well.  It is this pride in its history and culture that helps to make San Antonio one of the highest ranked cities in the world for both visiting and living today.

San Antonio's Economy

The U.S. military has also been influential in the growth and development of the economy and the housing market in San Antonio.  Several military bases are incorporated into the city's sense of community.  Nearby bases include Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base.

The medical and pharmaceutical research industries also make up a very vibrant part of the city's economy, along with over 100 Fortune 500 companies.
